Faye Smith

I’m Faye, the founder of Pilatyio and a specialist neuro‑physiotherapist. Since qualifying from Coventry University (2008) I worked in the NHS, focusing on the rehabilitation for neurological conditions and mobility issues.

My career has been dedicated to helping individuals in their recovery and rehabilitation.  I am passionate about minimising deterioration, optimising neuroprotection, and empowering people to challenge themselves further than they thought possible

Alongside my clinical practice, I have continued to develop my specialism. This allows me to explore and select from a wide range of treatment modalities and skills including:

  • Spasticity management

  • Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)

  • A MSc Development Module in the Management of Multiple Sclerosis

  • A range of Matwork Pilates courses including Neuro-Pilates and Reformer on the Mat

  • Therapeutic Yoga (including restorative yoga)

Ongoing training with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) enables me to integrate Pilates and therapeutic yoga into neuro‑rehabilitation to make movement safe, adaptable, and effective.

By combining Physiotherapy expertise with tailored Pilates, I create safe, adaptable programmes that make movement accessible, effective, and inspiring.

My approach is grounded in evidence‑based practice, but always delivered with compassion, understanding, and a commitment to helping each person rediscover what their body can achieve.

Pilatyio - Our Story

At Pilatyio our patients are at the heart of everything we do.  We believe that a neurological condition or injury doesn’t mean you can’t move, exercise, or enjoy life. Through evidence-based Physiotherapy and Pilates, we help you feel understood, empowered, and supported as you work towards your personal goals. With specialist expertise in neurological rehabilitation, we adapt movement to your needs—making movement feel safe, accessible, and confidence-building.

Who is Pilatyio for?

Neurological Rehabilitation: Specialist physiotherapy to support clients living with neurological conditions helping restore function, mobility, and independence. Find out more about some of the specific conditions we see.

Functional Movement & Pilates: Using Pilates as a tool within physiotherapy programmes to improve posture, balance, and everyday mobility for those who would like a bespoke guided Pilates practice due to injury or recovery.

Any Questions?

  • Everyone’s needs, challenges, and goals are unique — whether they relate to movement, confidence, or overall well‑being.
Physiotherapy through Pilatyio helps you identify those goals, understand any symptoms or movement patterns that may be holding you back, and create a tailored programme to support meaningful, sustainable progress.

It’s a personalised, supportive approach designed to help you move with more ease, confidence, and enjoyment

  • Your first session is all about understanding you. We’ll explore your goals, discuss any symptoms or challenges, and complete a gentle assessment to see how you move. This helps us tailor your programme from the very start.
You can also read more about this on our What to Expect in Neuro Physiotherapy page.

  • It depends on your goals, confidence, and any specific needs you may have. Classes offer a supportive group environment with guided variations, while 1:1 sessions provide focused, personalised input.
If you’re unsure, we’re happy to chat things through and help you choose the option that feels right for you.

  • Our full policy is available on the Cancellation Policy page. This outlines how to reschedule, notice periods, and what to do if you’re unable to attend a session.

  • Yes — many people join Pilatyio with neurological conditions, long‑term symptoms, or ongoing movement challenges. All 1:1 sessions are physiotherapy‑led and specifically tailored for neuro clients, with a strong focus on safety, confidence, and meaningful progress at your pace.

For classes, we’re always happy to discuss any injury or rehabilitation needs to make sure the group setting is appropriate and that we can offer suitable adaptations. Whatever your starting point, we’ll work with you to find the safest and most supportive option

  • No- no previous experience in Pilates is required. All new clients are asked to contact us via email so we can complete our screening process. This allows us to highlight your own goals and enables for bespoke advise and modifications to be suggested.

All clients are required to complete and pass our health questionnaire when booking classes.

We also offer face-to-face introductory sessions, allowing for an introduction to the key elements of Pilates and go through any modifications that may be helpful for you. Still unsure if it is for you? Get in touch - I am happy to answer any questions you may have.

  • Just bring yourself and a drink - we will do the rest. All mats and small equipment that you may use will be provided within the class setting. You may want to bring a small towel but this is not essential.

  • Classes are small (maximum of 10) allowing the instructor to observe and support each individual with their own needs and adaptations.

  • Absolutely. Our classes are led by a Physiotherapist with extensive experience supporting people with mobility needs. All new clients complete a screening questionnaire so we can understand your health, goals, and any adaptations required to keep your sessions safe and enjoyable.

If you’d like to talk through your individual needs, please get in touch — we’re always happy to help.

  • If you are a wheelchair user and would like to join our classes, please get in touch.
We aim to make our sessions as inclusive as possible, and many exercises can be adapted or completed in sitting. At present, classes involve a range of postures, including floor-based work, which may not be suitable for everyone.

By speaking with you first, we can explore safe alternatives together and decide whether a group class is appropriate or whether a one‑to‑one introductory session would better support your needs.

  • This isn’t a problem at all. Pilatyio sessions are designed to focus on what you can do, with guidance to help you navigate any challenges that arise. Throughout every class we pace movements, offer variations, and encourage you to work within your own ability so you feel supported, safe, and confident

  • Classes run in 6‑week blocks (usually aligned with term times). You’re welcome to join partway through a block — you’ll only pay for the remaining sessions.
If you’d like to continue, you can then book onto the next block through our online booking system.
